CHOANAL ATRESIA

CHOANAL ATRESIA

Description : Choanal atresia is caused by a bony or membranous congenital occlusion of the posterior nasal opening: the choana. Bilateral choanal atresia is a severe and potentially life threatening emergency in the newborn, as the newborn infant is an obligate nasal breather and cannot breath with the mouth closed.
