SEPTAL HEMATOMA

SEPTAL HEMATOMA

Description : Subperichondrial bleeding following trauma to the nose may produce a collection of blood between the perichondrium and the underlying cartilage of the nasal septum. The nose is characteristically blocked and tender to palpation especially when the nasal tip is elevated. Prompt surgical drainage is required, for if the hematoma persists or becomes infected, the cartilage will become necrotic and the support provided by the anterior septal cartilage of the nose will be lost.
